One quiet night at the Poetry Cafe in deepest London - the part where she feels her monthly pains - 10 poets picked inspiration from 10 classic soul songs and re-interpreted them unforgettably. In the small basement of the Poetry Cafe, the standing crowd of 64 gave new meaning to the word capacity. The place was pregnant; with people, pain and pride; with the pure soul that squeezed its liquid body out of the speakers as the poets had the DJ drop the tunes that had inspired them; with the poetry that came from soils still damp with the haunting waters of Jamaica, Ireland, St Lucia, Ghana, Oakland CA, Nigeria and Canada; the place was pregnant with the joy that came from the proximity of so much sweet human flesh and it delivered. The poets SPOKE their SOUL and history was made. The world would never be the same again.

Now spoken soul returns in a new funkier format at oh! art in Bethnal Green. The DJ is still there, but now 5 poets each interpret 2 soul songs of their choice. Don't miss the magic this time!
